With New York roots and a few decades in music, Robert Zimmerman provides legal support to entertainers, builders, inventors, and entrepreneurs. After spending the early years of his legal career between Los Angeles and San Francisco, Robert answered the calling to support a thriving Sacramento, California certified Small Business Entity trade contractor as its first Business Development General Counsel during a period when the company’s business was rapidly expanding. The company needed legal guidance as it entered complicated public works and transportation infrastructure projects and navigated the stop payment, mechanics lien and litigation landscape in an effort to get paid what they deserved for the hard work they performed.
Robert is a member of the Association of Corporate Counsel and is passionate about enabling business leaders to focus on what they do well in business by handling all the legal matters their companies face. Including Operating Agreements, Entity Formation and Dissolution, Contracts, Negotiations, Human Resources, Regulatory Compliance, Collections, Mechanics Liens, Litigation, and serving as press spokesperson in high-profile matters.
Successfully navigated trade client through San Francisco City and County Bid Qualifications and contract monitoring compliance to secure over $20 Million in work at the San Francisco International Airport.
Prosecuted a Mechanics Lien claim and successfully negotiated a settlement allowing the SBE Contractor client to move forward in a substantially better financial position.
Initiated the first lawsuit, amongst a group of many subcontractors, to perfect Mechanics Lien rights regarding unpaid work for a high-profile city-center revitalization hotel project.
Successfully launched many international apparel brands throughout the United States.
Represented game inventor in contract negotiations and drafted corresponding licensing agreements.
Robert gives back to the community volunteering for California CareForce and a recovery program supporting at risk youth and adults suffering from addiction. He spends his free time playing upright bass and is a member of the Fleet Feet Racing team where he trains for marathons like the Sacramento Running Association’s California International Marathon, where he qualified for the 2020 Boston Marathon.
Robert received his Juris Doctor from John F. Kennedy University, School of Law in 2011. During law school Robert was a member of the first cohort of California State Bar certified law students providing free legal advice and representation to low-income senior citizens at JFKU’s Elder Law Clinic. He holds a Bachelor of Science in Design from SUNY Buffalo State.
